We waved the Geordie 4 on as they left for the next stage of their cycling journey. It’s going to be hot again today and they had a hilly route planned, so hope they’ll be ok.

We did leave the campsite today, and headed for Spain. We had heard about a village called Bera, which was just over the border and was where the French went to buy goods cheaper than they could in France.

We drove through the beautiful countryside that we love and have missed these last few days. The roads were winding and very steep, but the views made it worth it.

We reached Bera, which was very picturesque but there wasn’t anywhere for Motorhomes to park, which was such a shame, as we would have loved to have had a walk around. Never mind, we carried on, and managed to get cheap fuel, and then made our way to Zumaia, where we could stay for free on the Marina.

We parked up, and then had a walk to the town, and as you may have guessed, hardly anywhere was open. However, Chris did spot a restaurant that was open, and they offered a 3 course lunch, a litre of cider between us and a bottle of water for 12€ each. We were just in time for lunch and it was lovely and well worth the money !

We then made our way back to the Motorhome and moved on to find somewhere a little more sheltered from the sun. We made our way to Deba, along the coast roads. The roads here seem quite narrow even though they are winding up and down the steep hills. There were so many cyclists on the roads today too, we really did have to watch carefully as we approached each bend.

Deba had another lovely beach and was packed, it was great to see so many people out enjoying the weather and swimming in the sea. It was too busy to stop, so we carried on to our final destination of the day; Lekeitia. There were so many people here too, some leaving the beach and others just going to the beach. The town was heaving, and with the narrow streets, it made for interesting driving in the Motorhome.

We arrived at the stopover, which could accommodate about 20 Motorhomes, and parked up in the last available space. We were actually next to a Motorhome who had parked sideways as they were quite long, and another van came and couldn’t park. The next things the police were here, asking the Motorhome next to us to park the other way around so that they could make room for the other van. Everyone was polite and the van was moved under the guidance of the police and the other one moved into the vacant space.

It must seem strange when you see such crowded towns and so many people after you have been to quiet villages in France. Enjoy Spain x
