Wow what an awful night. We thought we were still on the boat with the amount of wind and rain that we had !
Chris made breakfast, describing it as “delicious english bacon, flavoursome mature cheddar cheese, sautéd mushrooms on warm ciabatta bread, seasoned to your liking” - very nice it was too.

We had a little walk around where we had parked. It looked like quite a newly developed and well kept area, lots of allotments and clean loos - a great free stopover.
We then started on our journey further south. We headed for Caracas, where there was Motorhome parking in the town, but unfortunately there weren’t any spaces. So we decided to travel further towards Portugal looking for a stop in Alcantara.
Today’s journey was quite scary with the wind from the storm. We were following Eric and Christine, and could see the wind catching their motorhome - it was difficult to watch as a passenger never mind a driver - so thankful to Chris.
We saw lots of buzzards on the journey, one almost crashed into Eric - that would have made a mess - they were fighting the wind too. There were also lots of stork nests in the pylons, and we were lucky to see a couple of storks - they are enormous !
We were only 2km from our destination and it was still so windy, I really hoped we were going to find a sheltered spot. Thankfully, we started to descend and turned off the main road, and there was the stopover - sheltered from the wind.
We parked up and headed out for a much needed drink o settle our nerves from the journey. We went into one bar, and had beers and free tapas - calamari and a local Spanish dish of potatoes, onions, egg in oil. We then moved into another bar, where there were a group of motorcyclists enjoying a stop. One of them was Australian, and she said that they had been to Cornwall and now travelling Spain / Portugal. We wished them a safe journey and then had more beer and more free tapas. The first tapas was a little chewy (grilled ear we think !) A couple of more familiar looking tapas came afterwards 😊
