Day 6 - 05/05/19 - Boon Brewery

As there are actually 9 lambic breweries open to the public this weekend, as part of the Toer de Gueze, and, as we still had credit on our bus ticket, we thought it only right to try another one today. Boon brewery is located in Lembeek and was offering a free boat ride from Halle to the brewery.

We made our way on the bus, but just missed the boat. Never mind, we only had an hour to wait in the rain ! A local couple soon joined us, and we chatted away in the best way we could, and in no time De Ark moored up and on we got. Although we were offered beer on the boat, we thought we should decline (hard to believe I know, but it is so strong, and we had a brewery to visit).

There were people from Boon in each area of the brewery who were happy to tell us all about the process and history etc., and we were fortunate to talk to a lady who must have been in her late 70s and very knowledgeable - she was a little annoyed though, as yesterday, after 60 years of driving, she drove into the back of someone in a queue of traffic - the things you hear on these brewery tours !

Today’s sample was 5 years old, from barrel 109. The barrels were enormous and there were so many of them. The tour guide told us that they cannot get more barrels and that "Mr Boon" does any repairs himself, with a little help from his son on occassions.

After the tour we ventured to the bar area and were entertained by another band, they really do make it look like they are having such fun, and it was a joy to watch them playing.

We made our way back the same way, by boat and then bus, and arrived back at the Visitor Centre to find that all the other Motorhomes had left - just us for tonight.
