Well, the singing and dancing went on until midnight, and it sounded like everyone had had a good night. It rained during the early hours of the morning, but had stopped by the time we got up.

We left Blaye and after 2 unsuccessful planned stops, we finally found a stopover that was open and offered wine tasting / tour. During the journey, we went over the La Dordogne River at least 3 times, drove by so many vineyards on either side of the road and also passed by what looked like a scrap yard with really interesting objects in it !

We settled in, and was told that the wine tasting would be at 7pm. We had a mid afternoon BBQ and then made the most of the hot sun.

At 6pm, a few people gathered around the “tasting table”, and we began to wonder if we had been told the wrong time. They were chatting away, and enjoying the wine, and then at 7pm they all got up and glasses were cleaned and the owner invited us over. There was another family who had arrived, a couple and their 3 daughters, who also joined us.

We were given a glass of rose, which was lovely, and they started to talk. No one spoke English and we didn’t understand French. So, the lady from the family, who felt for us, used good old google translate, and it appeared they were just chatting about nothing in particular, and he wasn’t explaining anything about the wine.

We sat and listened, having no idea what was being said, then had a glass of white, and after an hour said our goodbyes and went back to our Motorhome. It all seemed rather strange. There was no mention of how much we could buy his wine for, which was a shame as we would have brought some of the rose. It just seemed like he invited people to drink his wine and have a chat, which would have been great if only we could have joined in !

Back at the Motorhome, we enjoyed our own wine, cheese and crackers - one of these days we shall find somewhere, where we can actually have a discussion about the wine, during a tasting session.
