We only travelled about 3 miles today to a little farm we had seen advertised with lots of positive reviews. They weren’t mistaken !
It was a beautiful hidden gem just off the road. We were greeted by the owner who guided us to a “parking space”, which was literally right next to his grapevines, with such beautiful views.
He then went on to explain where everything was and the bus routes and timetables etc. He was so helpful, even though he couldn’t speak English.
We had a wander to the local village for guess what - yes you’ve got it - bread, cheese and salami !
We then chilled in the afternoon, as we had wine tasting to look forward to at 6pm. Oh my, what a treat we had in store behind those wooden doors.
A Belgium couple joined us, and translated for us. It is funny when you ask a question, they translate it, then they have a 5 mins conversation in German and we get a few words as a response back lol !
We had a generous tasting of 5 wines. “Joseph Schaffer” actually has 7 separate hectares with 7 different grapes which are used to make his wines.
We started off with the dry and built up to the sweet. The 2 sweet wines were far too sweet for me (but I did manage to force them down). They were actually the same wine but 2 years apart, and tasted so different.
We opted to buy the other 3, and opened the first bottle as we sat outside our van with cheese and bread as accompaniment and enjoyed the views - what a beautiful evening.

I guess you fell asleep after that lot haha - what a lovely view to wake up to tomorrow x
