We left Rheinmünster this morning, but not before having our fix of an English conversation with Tami and Tony - it was lovely to meet them and have a chat with like minded people.

Chris was keen to drive through the Black Forest area, and what a treat that was, albeit terrifying in parts. We headed for the Schwarzenbach Dam in Forbach. Our journey started off well, and then we reached a closed road with no warning.

We stopped to ask a lady pushing twins (the twins are not relevant, it’s just to help me to remember her). She explained that there was a diversion, and pointed us in the right direction. We hadn’t gone far, when it just didn’t feel right, so we turned around, and as we were driving back down the hill, the lady with twins was there again, waving to us to tell us to go down the road we had missed on the way up. We soon picked up the “Umleitung” (diversion) signs and continued on our journey.

Wow, what a journey that was - climbing high into the mountains, through the winding roads and such amazing views. Everywhere you looked, it was so beautiful, all the colours, it was truly spectacular !

We parked up at the Dam so that we could both enjoy the views and have a little walk. We were soon joined by lots of motor bikers, a beautiful spot for them to meet up.

Chris daring to look over the edge of the dam, with his fear of heights !

After a German sausage in bread, we then made our way back through the Black Forest. The roads were quite narrow and winding, quite an experience for Chris to drive along. He really wanted to see the Forest in all its glory, but is scared of heights, and unfortunately you can’t have one without the other, but we made it !

Considering I keep asking Chris to keep his eyes on the road, I’m glad he diverted them (just the once), when he thought he had spotted a deer in the field. He managed to pull over and I zoomed in, and there he was looking back at us !

Another unusual view, was this vehicle - no idea what that was, but they looked comfortable enough on it, chatting away !

Our final destination of the day was Schiltach, another free place to park for the night within a little village, next to the river Kinzig.

Although we had had the most glorious weather travelling here today, when we arrived in Schiltach, we had such a storm - when it rains in Germany, it comes down so heavy, and from nowhere. We will be keeping a close eye on the river this evening to ensure it doesn’t burst its bank !

Lucky for us, the sun came back out, and I managed to take a few photos of a heron that had been wandering around, on the river bank.

Schiltach is another beautiful village - these are photos from where we were parked.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they were 100m long but they go on for miles 😳
