We left Mombarcaro and headed towards France. The views of the alps in the distance were breathtaking - we have been so fortunate to be able to experience this 🥰
We reached a small village called Dimonte, where the roads were so narrow with lorries trying to pass through. We saw a restaurant open, and decided to stop for lunch. It was a very strange experience in the restaurant - we went in and asked if it was ok to eat. The couple behind the bar talked to each other in Italian and seemed to say yes 🤔- we then went outside to a table, and were left alone for quite a while. The waiter then came with his pad to take our order. I asked if he had a menu, and he just pointed to his pad - not very helpful - needless to say, we got up and left.
We had a walk around Dimonte, where they had a lot of wooden “snowmen” !
We then continued on our way towards France, through ski resorts, along winding, steep, narrow roads. It amazed me how the enormous trucks travel this route day after day.
We reached an altitude of nearly 2000m as we entered France and began to drop down again.
As we reached Barcelonnette, where there looked to be some sort of car show. We had a quick look on our stopover maps and found that there was a stopover nearby, so we went to find it so we have a better look. It happened to be the “Ronde Historique Des Alps”.
As we walked back into the town, crossing over the river, some of the cars came passed us.
We thought we must have missed them now as they had left, but lucky for us, they had all gone for a short drive, and came back to the square, so we managed to see each one as it drove in and parked up !
We then had a look around the village, and were amazed at how big it was - hidden streets full of shops an restaurants !
What a wonderful day we’ve had, with the amazing views, lovely villages and a surprise car event - time for lasagna in the Motorhome, to recharge our batteries and wait to see what tomorrow brings.
