2023/4 Winter Trip - Day 06 - 04/11/2023

The joy of being parked right next to a huge church you get to hear the bells from at 7am to 10pm, every quarter of an hour. Basically they play a tune on the hour, then chime 2 minutes later, play a tune at quarter past and chime 2 minutes later, play a tune at half past and chime 2 minutes later, and you’ve guessed it - another tune at quarter to and chimes 2 minutes later 😳

So, we waved goodbye to Fatima, stocked up on some essentials and headed for Obidos. It was a very wet journey today - so much rain. We drove through a few small villages, and they have lights as you approach the village which change to red if you are approaching too fast, it definitely slows people down.

Finally the sun came out and we had a lovely walk around Obidos - such a beautiful place, an unexpected find behind the castle walls, with quaint shops with such beautifully decorated entrances, enormous collections of books from the floor to ceilings, a shop full of tins of sardines, and the views from the top were absolutely stunning.

We were also treated to street singers singing opera, and sounded outstanding.

We couldn't leave without having a taste of the local drink Ginja, a cherry liqueur in a chocolate cup - delicious 😋

After the most amazing time walking around the village, we managed to find a bar (O Portao de Vila), run by a couple from the UK. (Mel and Rob). They were so welcoming and we had such a great couple of hours. We enjoyed some Portuguese and German beer, along with a meat and cheese platter. Mel even took Christine and Eric's dog, Lola, out for a walk, or was it the other way around
