Luckily it did cool down a little overnight, so we managed to have a good sleep (not that it matters with not having to get up for work in the morning 😉).

It was so hot again, and we couldn’t decide whether to move on or not, and in the end we decided to stay, as the places we had looked at next didn’t look like they had any shade.

We took the bikes out, and cycled 8 miles - Chris had awful blisters from last night’s walk, so he wasn’t going to be able to walk far. I had seen pictures of the Capbreton Port and really wanted to see it for myself before we left the area.

Wow - it was a lovely sight - so many boats, people fishing off the bridge, from boats and from jet skis - and a fish market right on the front - you couldn’t get fresher than that !

We then went around to the pier and the views of the beach were amazing from there - we just hadn’t expected to see such beautiful sandy beaches in France.

Although, there were plenty of bars / restaurants, they were all very busy so we headed back to the campsite and had beer, food and sangria. In the bar we met a Scottish chap - so, although we haven’t met many people who speak English, we have met Welsh, English, Irish and Scottish !

Afterwards, I went swimming to try to cool down again, and this time swam 30 lengths. Came back and Chris fixed the gears on my bike - they had never been set quite right, and kept ‘clunking’ - hopefully no more ‘clunks’.

4 Geordie cyclists then arrived looking for their pitch number. They set their tents up - a small one and an even smaller one - I was really puzzled as to who would be sleeping where, not sure if you’re like me and like to make your own stories up - but then 2 more tents appeared - mystery solved.

We went to the bar to see them and have an English chat, and found out that they are actually cycling 1,000 km Camino Cycle Challenge for the Marie Currie charity - good on them and we wish them well in their adventure. They were each a great character in their own right; Ken seemed to be the organiser and writer (much better than any other author, so we were led to believe), Caroline who was the one who was behind the fundraiser, Dave had a few great “jokes” and insisted on calling us Stephen and Christine, and “Jacko” who came out without any pants and had a guide rope to hold up his shorts - hilarious.

We had a great night, and hope to see them again sometime as Ken and Caroline actually live in Spain, so it could be sooner rather than later.

Always love a harbour. Well done to Chris for helping with your bike, and hope the blisters heal soon. Glad you made new friends, and what a great cause x
